Craft Scotland is delighted to announce the recipients of the Inches Carr Craft Bursaries 2025. The awards recognise the talent of emerging and established Scotland-based makers and assist in the development of their craft practice.

With a prestigious history spanning 25 years, the Inches Carr Awards have supported the careers of makers such as Malcolm Appleby, Deirdre Nelson, Grainne Morton, and James Rigler, as well as providing opportunities to many makers early in their development.  
 

The 2025 awards consist of two categories: 
 

• Inches Carr Craft Bursaries: Emerging Maker  
   
• Inches Carr Craft Bursaries: Established Maker  

​This year six Emerging Makers and three Established Makers have been awarded bursaries of £2,000 and £5,000 respectively.  

The bursaries offer support to makers who are looking to develop their practice through strategic research and development. This could be through the learning of a new skill, the opportunity to receive training from an industry expert, attending a course or residency, or the purchase of specialist equipment and materials to further advance their craft practice. 

About the Inches Carr Trust 
 
The Inches Carr Trust was created following the deaths of Deirdre Inches and Malcolm Carr in 1995. The trust was founded to create a legacy in their memory reflecting their interests in music and the decorative arts. 

Following the winding down of the Inches Carr Trust in 2021, Craft Scotland is now the custodian of the craft-related awards and will continue to provide bursaries from the fund over the next four to five years.
